Susanne Hendrix

susanne hendrix

Branch: Army

Duty Station: NATO-JFC-Brunssum

Number of Deployments: 0

Number of PCS's: 1

About the nominee: My husband and I have been married 16 months. With no real options for employment immediately available, I threw myself into volunteering. I have no knowledge of how the military works or how lives are truly affected by PCSes or deployments, despite having family members serve in the military. This has been a crash course with my sister and numerous friends being constantly hammered with questions.

Hobbies: Reading, writing (don¢â‚¬â„¢t get excited....I take pride in my letters. I don¢¢â€š¬¢â€ž¢t write books or blogs), crocheting, cooking, cleaning, ballroom dancing.

Interesting Facts: I'm no one special. I like making people feel good about themselves and feeding them in the process.

What is something you’ve learned from being a military spouse? The toll it takes on the spouse that doesn’t work can be brutal. I feel like I lost my identity when I didn¢¢â€š¬¢â€ž¢t have an income...when I didn¢¢â€š¬¢â€ž¢t have a career. I found a new facet of myself when I began volunteering.

In your opinion, what is one of the most important issues facing military families? Being so new to this life, I can¢¢â€š¬¢â€ž¢t believe what families have endured over the course of an entire career in the services.

What is one of the best aspects of being in a military family? The new friends you make that become your extended family.

What is one thing you want to accomplish with the Military Spouse of the Year title? I want bring more to family members who are new to the military life and need help navigating the system. Trust me....I was in for a doozy!!! °…¸‹Å“¢â‚¬°
