About the nominee: I am a father of two little boys and a lifelong educator. I have been teaching in Title 1 schools since I started and teaching is a passion. My wife is a medical service officer, working at LRMC; a lifelong goal of her own that I am incredibly proud that she achieved. However, it comes with stress and I help in any way I can, from helping with military functions, to acting as a go-between when needed.
Hobbies: My main hobby is writing. It's been my stress reliever and passion. I also enjoy ju-jitsu, reading, hiking, and exploring castles.
Interesting Facts: I published my first two novels, Empyreal and Stygian, in 2017. I am on track to publish two more in 2018.
What is something you’ve learned from being a military spouse? Never take where you are for granted and find your Military family (namely, other spouses). Every place has an adventure and every place has Spouses who can be your support network.
In your opinion, what is one of the most important issues facing military families? The need for connection when you PCS to a new duty station. You leave behind an old support network of friends and co-workers when you change stations. And when you arrive at the next duty station, you need information, but also others who know the area and with whom you can build lasting friendships.
What is one of the best aspects of being in a military family? Right now, we are living overseas; the first in my family to do so. Being a military family exposes to many different places, both in and outside the U.S.
What is one thing you want to accomplish with the Military Spouse of the Year title? I suffer from anxiety. Going to new places terrifies me at times. However, I have been fortunate that other spouses have helped me. I want to extend that to others. The KMC area has shown me that you can find ways to reach out and help people; Military families need this.
