About the nominee: I've been married for 4 years to a sailor and have done 2 deployments and too many underways to count. Currently an active Realtor in the community and try my hardest to help every and all military families that relocate here to Mayport, find housing, job opportunities, daily activities, and schools that fit their needs. I also have currently sponsored two no dough dinners through the USO and would love the opportunity to get more involved.

Hobbies: Working, bowling, movie going, and tanning on the beach.

Interesting Facts: I have a third ear

What is something you’ve learned from being a military spouse? Patience is virtue, with all of the underways, holidays missed, and achievements not celebrated you learn that those are just days and we hope to have a lifetime to celebrate those moments even if it's not the day of. You must have patience to be a military spouse.

In your opinion, what is one of the most important issues facing military families? Housing, there are too many times in my community I see a spouse reach out for help trying to find housing. A lot of landlords that take advantage of military members, and some housing close to base that is over priced and not in good condition that a family who has never lived in the area gets blind sided not knowing the market or community. I'd love to find a way to make this transition easier for families that move from different areas of the world.

What is one of the best aspects of being in a military family? The pride I have in my husband, he is the most selfless and heartfelt person I've ever met. He constantly tries to help people at work and at home, he will gladly give his weekend away to help someone in need and that includes this county. There are not words that demonstrate the pride I have in him for what he does for his country.

What is one thing you want to accomplish with the Military Spouse of the Year title? Be more outgoing and network with spouses who help the community. I would love to get together with like minded Spouses and try to help all families who have to pick up and move every 3-4 years with relocating and finding good housing that is safe, affordable, and good condition. Help them transition easier with kids, schools, job relocation, and activities they enjoy doing.

Reasons for nominating:

She is my daughter in law and she is always supporting my son and keeps him uplifted durning times underway and deployment. She shows love and kindness to him always and makes the time away easier for him with less pressure and worry with what's going on at home. She is such a blessing to him. -- Jada yocum, Friend
