About the nominee: My name is Delia Pettit and I have been a military spouse for 15 years and while married I was able to get my BA of English degree from Regent University. I am also a proud parent of four wonderful kids one is special needs and he has Spina though I am busy with family I have always had a fond for volunteering in the community. I have over 500 hours of volunteer time in the city of Virginia Beach by helping out at the kids school, animal control and our church. I also had the great pleasure to lead the NAS Oceana VFA-105 Family Readiness Group during deployment last year 2016. It was a great experience and I was able to coordinate and provide events and information to the unit families.
Hobbies: Spending time with our kids and helping out at church.
Interesting Facts: I am a proud parent of a spina bifida child.
What is something you’ve learned from being a military spouse? Something I've learned about being a military spouse that I have learned to share my husband with the navy annd support at home helps him support to get though the mission at work.
In your opinion, what is one of the most important issues facing military families? Most families are not familiar with the benefits they have or the resources that are available to them.
What is one of the best aspects of being in a military family? Having the opportunity to go on base and see navy ships and planes.
What is one thing you want to accomplish with the Military Spouse of the Year title? Reach out to other military spouses and let them know that opportunity is available to us by furthering our education or shining as a volunteer at a local base or library we are capable of much more.
