About the nominee: I am 29, married for 6 years and a fur-mom of a mini poodle named Matt. I am a Key Spouse and spend most of my time volunteering or working as a sub para-educator for an elementary school.

Hobbies: Wood burning art, volunteering and watching anime

Interesting Facts: Three generations of my family, my grandmother, mother and I,were born in the same hospital. My mom and I were both delivered by my aunt and we hope to one day continue that tradition.

What is something you’ve learned from being a military spouse? Resiliency is an ever evolving skill that each base will either strengthen or test.

In your opinion, what is one of the most important issues facing military families? I think not having enough medical support is a huge issue families are facing military wide.

What is one of the best aspects of being in a military family? Meeting people from all walks of life and being able to enrich each others lives with laughter, tears and pcs stories.

What is one thing you want to accomplish with the Military Spouse of the Year title? I hope to demonstrate that you are not 'just a spouse' and you can have a positive influence on those around you one small act at a time.

Reasons for nominating:

Mrs. Christian Brown has been an outstanding volunteer and advocate within the community of Beale AFB, CA. She is a Key Spouse for her husband's unit. Volunteers at the base library, Airmen and Family Readiness Center, and Elementary School. Due to her efforts the unit's failing Key Spouse was invigorated and participation increased 250%. Christian took the position as one of the Key Spouses for the 48thIS at Beale AFB & has done nothing but hit it OUT OF THE BALLPARK! Not only has she been bending over backwards being an outstanding Key Spouse, earning not just a squadron award but all the way up to the base Key Spouse of the Quarter! Outside of the Key Spouse program she volunteers with the other base programs including working at the Airmen & Family Readiness Center & recently has become a substitute teacher at the base primary school! -- Kendra McMullen, Colleague
