What is something you’ve learned from being a military spouse? Don't trust a stereo-type. Living all over has shown me just how wrong the stereotypes about people groups are.

In your opinion, what is one of the most important issues facing military families? In my opinion, separations and the constant moving are the 2 hardest facets of military family life.

What is one of the best aspects of being in a military family? I love getting to see so many different places and meet new people from all over the world.

What is one thing you want to accomplish with the Military Spouse of the Year title? Supporting younger military spouses. It's a unique lifestyle, and you have no idea what you are getting into at the beginning. I certainly didn't. It helps to have experienced spouses come along and tell you it's okay to hire help, move close to family, and make that move with your husband.

Reasons for nominating:

Having learned of the call for nominations for this year's 2017 Military Spouse of the Year® (MSOY), I am writing today to endorse a highly suitable individual, April Stephens. In many ways exceeding the challenging requirements and expectations for the award, April's ambitions, intelligence, and accomplishments complement precisely the stellar community of past recipients and make her highly deserving of the honor and opportunity bestowed by the Military Spouse of the Year® (MSOY). April and her family is currently stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. She has been an Army spouse for 15- years which gives spouses like myself a unique perspective to her experience and challenges. She is a mother of four young boys to whom she home schooled. In her free time, April likes to attend church and network with her fellowship and other military spouses. She is a successful professional blogger and authors “The Stories of Our Boys” (http://storiesofourboys.com). Her friendship is genuine and kind to me and other spouses. Her Southern girl charm and hospitality truly reflect and lifts the spirit of sisterhood for spouses when their partners are deployed or on an assignment. To further support this nomination, I would be pleased to express in more detail my personal insights into April's unique talents and qualifications, and I would welcome the opportunity to mention additional contacts who would be willing to express their support of the nominee. -- Chanda Chann, Friend
